Genoveva Dimova
EXPECTATIONS
The plot alone was enough to snag my interest in this new fantasy based on Slavic folklore, and I was eager to experience a new world of fantasy from the intricate mind of author Genoveva Dimova.
STORY
The protagonist, a young witch named Kosara, leads us on a fast paced journey through the cities of Chernograd and Belograd to retrieve her shadow from an evil and conniving past toxic relationship, The Zmey, Tsar of Monsters. The story is candid and fast track, the author world building through Kosara’s pursuit of her shadow, and ultimately, her power. I especially appreciated the emphasis on the characters and their interactions, was thoroughly entertained with the engrossing dialogue and conversation, and was enthralled with the variety of monsters and night dwelling creatures that enliven the novel and transport the reader to a whole new world of magic and mayhem.
CHARACTERS
Kosara is a young witch who carries a tremendous amount of self-doubt, self-loathing, and conscience eating guilt, shouldering deep-seated trauma from past relationships and personal shortcomings. Despite this, she works tremendously hard to sever the ropes of suffering that suffocate and prevent her from marching forward and finding peace in her life. With the unexpected support from Asen, a detective from the other side of the wall, she is able to literally fight her demons and reclaim what is rightfully hers.
